Student Directed Project: Bedroom

Picture
This is my first project of Computer Drafting III. I first started out making an alarm clock. To make the clock I used commands such as Boolean Difference, Bend, Mirror, and Polar Array. I then decided to make an end table to put the alarm clock and lamp on top of it. To finish off the bedroom I made a bed and used commands such as bend, stretch, copy, and boolean difference.

How Are Cows Made Into Hamburgers?

Picture
Hamburger cows are typically corn-fed, but as we all know, hamburgers can be made from the most sacred of beef meat like Black Angus. When a cow is butchered, certain sections of the cow end up in different packages of meat and are used for different things. The part of a cow that is typically used for hamburger is called chuck steak, which is cut from back of the neck of the cow. Cows are butchered in large factories and certain cuts are packaged and sold to grocery stores. Many of these grocery stores will buy large cuts of beef and then butcher these down into smaller cuts that you or I would buy. Anyone can go to the grocery store and buy a pound of hamburger, then mash the hamburger into patties and throw it on the grill to celebrate the fourth of July. Or, you can order a hamburger at McDonald's, and enjoy it just the same.

Alternative Happy Meal Toy

Picture
This is my alternative to the Mcdonald's Happy Meal Toy. I thought of a coloring book because it does not use plastic like the other Happy Meal Toys. I used simple commands like copy, mirror, and bend. I put a decal of a dog on the front page to color. I made the coloring book the same as the Mcdonald's colors: Red, Yellow, and White.

Military

Picture
A military is an organization authorized by its nation to use force, usually including use of weapons, in defending its country by combating actual or perceived threats. Routine functions of the military are the training soldiers have to go through before going into battle. Joining the military goes through a long process: First military recruiters offer young people to sign up for the military. Getting government support will also benefit you in joing the military. Drug tests are administered and you are off to boot camp for training. In boot camp, soldiers excercise, study, and practice basic training routines. Once complete with the basics of the military, soldiers are sent to the real war. More than half the military funding comes from Federal government and basic research.

Box

Picture
This is the shape I created for the box project. I first started out with a box and expanded from it. Then creating the ramp that connects to the smaller box. I started off creating the layout of the box's walls and put it together using Bongo. The first problem I encountered was getting the walls to fold on top. Since all of the walls start out flat the pieces that would go on top would have to be animated twice, but Bongo only allows you to animate an object once. I resolved this problem by having the wall pre-folded before animating it. I wanted to put a design on my box, but due to Brazil it caused a problem. Brazil is very new to me and complicated to work out. Instead of trying to put colors on the box, I decided to put a decal on the box that I created. Although I had problems with this project, I finished it and created a short video below.

Portuguese Product

Picture
I was asked to make a product from Portugal on Rhino 4.0. So I decided to make a clay dish that is used to flame grill certain sausages, such as chourico. This is my first project using Brazil. The base color of the dish is orange and the gloss color is gold. I made the bowl out of a stretched cylinder and used the command Boolean Difference to cut out the top and make a bowl shape. The rounded edge on top of it is a curve that was piped and the legs are cylinders that were bent to make the shape you see. The chourico was simply piped with rounded ends and I gave it a red material color with a black gloss color. I added one spotlight and three point lights to make it look better.
A problem that I encountered was creating the bowl. I created an Ellipsoid and used Boolean Difference to cut out the top and bottom and then used the command to make it hollow. I looked good in it's non-rendered version, but when I rendered it there was a strange curve in the middle that made it look nothing like a bowl. To solve this I instead used the procedure above by stretching a cylinder and used Boolean Difference to cut out the top. Overall this project was pretty simple to me and gave me time to experiment and know more about Brazil.

Portuguese Version

Fui convidado para fazer um produto de Portugal em Rhino 4,0. Então eu decidi fazer um prato de barro que é usado para grelhar salsichas chama certos, como o chouriço. Este é o meu primeiro projeto usando o Brasil. A cor base do prato é laranja e cor é o brilho do ouro.

Glass Project

Picture
This is my glass project. I created Ice Tea in a glass cup with a lemon slice on it. The cup is made out of a basic glass material. The tea is a transparent solid with an orange color and brown gloss color. The ice cubes are boxes that I made transparent. The tea bag you see at the bottom of the glass is a curve that I extruded and then patch and colored brown. The lemon slice is half a cylinder that has a solid yellow color around it with a transparent light yellow solid. One problem that I encountered was the glass not being visible because it was so transparent. I solved this problem by putting two light portals at the top and bottom of the glass and adding a couple of spotlights around it. After rendering the final version of the glass, I was informed that I could render it in higher quality. I typed in toolbar in the command box then selected "Brazil for Rhino" and "RDK." I then selected the highest quality I could render the glass and got the image you see above.

Fish Tank

Picture
This is my fish tank project. I first started by creating the actually fish tank by making a box then used Boolean Difference to make the inside of the tank. I made the texture of the tank glass so you could see through it and then put a transparent solid in it to seem like water. I created the rocks by patching various shaped curves. The seaweed was similarly made by creating curves and patching them. I created all the fish in a similar way shown in the tutorial below. When I rendered the final product, it was difficult to see and looked gloomy. I solved this by adding two light portals to the top and bottom of the fish tank and added two spotlights around the tank.

Feedback-Cade-"The lighting could use some work"
-Cade suggested that I should fix the lighting, so I will work more on the lighting element in my next project.

Stick Figure Comedy

Picture
My stick figure comedy involved a random person I created opening a door to see a monster on the other side. Frightened by the sight of him, he screams a runs while the monster chases him. The Benny Hill theme then ensues and the chase continues. They then run into an alley where the random person is chased by 20 more of these monsters. I had many ideas for a stick figure comedy, some of which were to complicated for Bongo to handle. I went with a simple chase with some Benny Hill music to go along with it. Although I wish the animations were a little more fluent, I was happy with my video that you can find in the "Rhino Videos" page.

Military Aircraft: AC130

Picture
Background Information: This is the AC130, a military aircraft also known as the "Angel of Death." It's military purpose is for close air support, air interdiction, and force protection. The gunship's offensive weapons include a 20mm gatling-type cannons, a 40mm cannon, and a 105mm cannon. The AC130 uses a night vision radar to easily detect targets on the ground.

I started by creating a cylinder and using the stretch command to shape the body of the aircraft to my liking. I then created the nose of the gunship stretching the points on a sphere. To make the wings I created a long box and smoothed the edges. The fins on the back end of the plane were created the same way as the wings. The cannons were made from a series of cylinders. The material of the aircraft is a granite texture that was grey and dark grey to create a camouflage look. The background image was taken from Google images.

Final Exam: Beaker

Picture
This is my final exam project for my 3rd year in Rhino. I created a beaker using a tutorial found on Mr. Croke's website. I used commands such as loft, scale, and splop. My main problem that I had with this project was making the beaker a glass material. Instead I used a transparent gloss solid to make the beaker as close to glass as possible. The blue liquid is a also a transparent solid that has a blue color to it. The measurements on the beaker is text that was put on with Splop.
